Grapes: 90% Sangiovese, 5% Alicante, 5% Merlot
The soil: sandy, tuffaceous.
Location of the vineyards: the vines are located on a plateau, facing the Tyrrhenian coast, at an average altitude of approx. 200 metres above sea level, with excellent exposure for the ripening of the grapes. The climate is partly influenced by the proximity of the sea, and by the hills that form a protective barrier against the wind, and it is suitable for the ripening of the grapes.
Production notes: the type of cultivation is the “spurred cordon”, with 2.5 x 0.70 m planting density, and maximum grape production per hectare of 7500 kg, according to the production booklet.
Harvesting: Picking of the grapes takes place manually, usually during the second half of September.
Wine-making: The hand-picked grapes are vinified in stainless steel containers at controlled temperature, between 28°-30°C. Maceration lasts approx. two weeks.
Aging: after fermentation, the wine remains inside the stainless steel vats until the spring, and then it is bottled to preserve the grape fragrance and scent.
At the eye: red ruby colour with purple reflexes.
At the nose: it boasts a scent of ripe red fruit (cherry, rather than sour black berry), and stronger leather fragrances with time
At the mouth: dry, savoury, persistent, full body and soft tannins
At the table: The vintage Morellino is a pleasant, light-hearted wine, boasting exuberant freshness, to drink straight away, especially if accompanied to the cuisine from Maremma, consisting of decisive tastes of game, wild boar, pheasant, hare, delicious tortelli and tagliatelle with wild boar meat sauce. It is a wine to drink right away, but it can age well for at least 3/ 4 years
